Non-absorbable surgical sutures are indicated in the treatment of soft tissue approach and/or ligation also in cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurosurgical procedures.

Non-absorbable suture most commonly used for skin suturing. Due to its higher tensile strength, the suture does not degrade over time even in infected areas.

Suitable for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation. This suture is known for its low tissue resistance and is neither absorbed nor weakened by tissue enzymes.

Non-absorbable natural silk sutures are suitable for suturing and ligating vessels and soft tissue, including use in cardiovascular, plastic and ophthalmic surgery.

Silk causes an acute inflammatory reaction in the tissue, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by connective tissue fibres. Although it is a non-absorbable suture, silk fibres are degraded in vivo with gradual loss of tensile strength over time.
Because of the gradual loss of tensile strength that can occur over long periods of time in vivo, silk should not be used where permanent tensile strength is required.
